Mattie Safer is a seasoned musician who began his career as the bassist for the dance-punk band, The Rapture. He was part of the vibrant music scene in New York City during the early 2000s, which included iconic acts like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and LCD Soundsystem. This era was recently documented in the film, ‘Meet Me In The Bathroom.’
Fast forward almost two decades, and Mattie has evolved musically, now exploring the softer and more mellow side of dance music. He is currently the lead vocalist for the slo-mo kings Poolside, and has recently introduced his own solo project, lovetempo, on Razor-N-Tape.
The lovetempo EP is a soothing and laid-back collection of songs that incorporates various genres like organic disco, modern bossa nova, and smooth jazz. Mattie’s soulful and emotive vocals glide effortlessly through all four original tracks, touching on themes of both sadness and happiness. The EP features catchy and singable hooks that are sure to stay with listeners long after the music stops.
On the remix duties for “The Sun” we have none other than Yuksek.
Yuksek is the stage name of Pierre-Alexandre Busson, a French electronic music producer, remixer, and DJ. Born on November 19, 1977, in Reims, France, Yuksek began his music career as a member of the electro-pop band Klanguage before transitioning to a solo career in 2007.
His debut album, “Away from the Sea,” was released in 2009 and featured collaborations with artists like Amanda Blank and Chromeo. Since then, Yuksek has released several albums, EPs, and singles, including “Living on the Edge of Time” and “Nous Horizon.“
Known for his energetic live performances, Yuksek has also gained a reputation as a prolific remixer, having worked with a diverse range of artists including Gorillaz, Phoenix, and Lana Del Rey. He has also founded his own record label, Partyfine, which has become a platform for emerging artists in the electronic music scene.
“The Sun (Yuksek Remix)” is a clean and tight Disco/House hybrid with sonic ties to both the past and the present.
The bass laden remix is laced with Rhodes, Disco lasers and dubbed out delay effects.
The chorus builds in a seminal way, a truly feels like the sun rising ushering in a new, glorious day. Hands in the air!
