Twin Sun have been quite the hype lately, with some wondrous releases on Too Slow To Disco and Midnight Riot quite recently.
They also have a few upcoming tracks due on our own Discoholics Anonymous Recordings later this Spring.
Twin Sun hails from Reading, England, and was formed by Pete Wheeler & Jamie Wilcox in November 2015.
Initially producing edits for themselves and friends, they soon gained plays from Rob Da Bank, Horse Meat Disco & Greg Wilson.
The pair DJed at various festivals in 2016 including Bugged Out Weekender and at Glastonbury Festival, joining popular club night Fleetmac Wood to play their Fleetwood Mac edits.
Here they gently twist Prince‘s arm around the back, escorting him kindly into the 2020s with this fantabulous edit of his illustrious Lady Cab Driver.
“Neither Jamie or I had ever talked about making an edit of a Prince song until this February. As such huge fans of his work it would only have felt right when there was something we could do that truly added to a track whilst keeping it in his spirit.Lady Cab Driver is one of my top 5 Prince tracks. Tucked away at the end of the “1999” album, it’s a slap-bass drenched funk belter that aways felt a little overlooked to me (including by the man himself who rarely played it live after the Parade tour in 1986).Alongside previously unreleased gems like the incredible “Purple Music”, 2019’s Super Deluxe edition of “1999” album included a ‘Tour Demo’ medley from 1983 which opened with a high-octane one minute instrumental version of “Lady Cab Driver”. Hearing the track with a big Linn drum machine sequence, synth stabs and extra guitars immediately sparked the idea of combining this with the more sparse original and building a DJ set-friendly blend of the two. Here’s the end result, made with huge love for the great man…we hope you enjoy it!”
